Learn To Make a Princess Dress

As our adults wear formal dresses, every little girl dreams of becoming a princess with their pretty dress. Why not make her a princess dress for endless hours of fun? Even if you don’t know how to sew, you can still make your little girl a delightful dress that she’s sure to wear proudly and spend countless hours pretending to be a royal. Now that you have assembled your daughter’s princess dresses, it’s time for her to play at hour’s end. Let her pretend to be her favorite princess, whether it’s from a fairy tale, or a character right out of her own imagination.

Find a long dress with a wide skirt. If it has a petticoat, even better! Try looking for one with either puff sleeves, or if it’s a sleeveless dress, be sure the dress has potential. Don’t worry if it’s rather plain. You can always add your own embellishments. It doesn’t have to be her exact size. In fact, if the dress runs a little big, she can wear it for a longer time. Go buy a tiara at a bridal store, costume store or find some from flea markets and yard sales. Get her some costume jewelry for her treasure trove of fancy rings, pendants and earrings. The gaudier, the better! Make a scepter out of an old stick wrapped in some pink or white satin ribbon. Give your little princess the proper footwear. She can use her existing fancy shoes, or go get some pretend heels with flounces and glitter for her little feet. Make sure she wears tights or white stockings, just like the princesses in the fairy tales. When looking for your princess dress, every little girl loves pink! Make it pink, white or lavender. Shiny, shimmery fabrics are hugely popular with little girls. Remember, you can always modify the dress. Here comes the fun part. Add some extra fabric to the dress. Sew on some sequins, pearls, fabric flowers or appliqués to the dress to give it more drama. You can also add some satin bows to it. You can attach it on the shoulders using some pins to make a royal cape, or right on the back of the dress for a train.
